We are very pleased to introduce our new employee Frank Kyne. Frank is our new Tuning Letter editor and author. Frank is an exceptional talent, and we are excited to have him join us. He'll enhance not only the Tuning Letter but also our consulting, software, and education businesses. In fact, we've already started teaching classes.  

Frank has been working with MVS since 1978, first as a system programmer with an Irish insurance company, then with IBM Ireland and since 1998, with the IBM ITSO (International Technical Service Organization) in Poughkeepsie. There Frank developed and taught ITSO courses throughout the world. His specialties are Parallel Sysplex, high availability, exploiting z/OS and new z/OS releases.  He has also provided consulting for many of IBM's largest and most complex System z customers in Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia.

Our North American readers will be most familiar with Frank as the project manager and contributor to over 80 IBM Redbooks and Redpapers. Frank was my (Cheryl Watson) project manager when I worked on the Mean Time to Recovery Redbook in 2009. At that time I decided he was one of the smartest and most talented people I've ever met. You can see the list of the Redbooks Frank has managed on our Cheryl's List #170. 

I have been using and explaining mainframe operating systems since 1965. We at Watson & Walker, Inc. offer practical mainframe performance and measurement advice. Through our paid electronic publicationCheryl Watson's Tuning Letter, which comes out four times a year and Cheryl Watson's z Systems CPU Chart, we assist system programmers, capacity planners and performance analysts world wide using the IBM z/OS (previously the OS/390 or MVS) operating system. Our goal is to provide vendor-independent and very practical assistance and training, keeping our customers up-to-date and saving them valuable time, money and resources. We also offer two software products, BoxScore and GoalTender.

RECENT EVENTS
    Cheryl Watson's Tuning Letter 2015 No. 2 was emailed to active subscribers on July 31, 2015. And an update was sent out on August 4, 2015. 
    The 2015 DVD-ROM, which contains all material published from 1991 through 2014 was mailed to Tuning Letter subscribers on April 15, 2014.
    The January 2015 z Systems CPU Chart was emailed to electronic subscribers on January 25, 2015.

BoxScore is our set of SAS programs which show you the difference in CPU speed and CPU capacity after a hardware change, a software change, a change in LPAR configuration, or a tuning change. For instance, we identify the stable job steps or transactions that most benefited from the change and also identify the job steps or transactions that suffered the most (or benefited the least).
